In today’s episode, I talk to Bob Metcalfe, the inventor of Ethernet.
This guy is funny, very smart, and crazy rich.
He helped invent the Ethernet in 1973 while working at Xerox. Didn’t get rich from doing that.
He actually got super-rich by starting his own computer networking company called 3Com, where he sold Ethernet and other products.
After the success of 3Com, which became a multi-billion dollar company, he tried many other careers.
He was a journalist, a VC, and a professor. And now, he is looking for his next job.
If you’ve ever wanted to learn about the invention of Ethernet and have multiple interesting careers, then you’ll love this episode.
In this episode, you’ll enjoy 3 BIG things:
- The competitive advantage of having “a time machine”
- How he got mentored by Steve Jobs
- Why it’s important to learn sales, and how he messed up his two chances to sell the Ethernet to IBM
Quick disclaimer: The audio quality of this episode may not be that good, but the content was so FIREEE that I had to share it with you guys. It’s a full-length interview from a video that has gone viral on our YouTube channel called “Asking 80 Year Old Millionaires If It Was Worth It”.
