In today’s episode, I talk to Brian Smith, founder of UGG Boots — the well-known footwear brand. At the age of 29, Brian Smith wanted to find the “next big thing” in America and bring it back to Australia, but he soon realized the real opportunity was actually bringing a popular product from Australia to America.
Almost every Australian Brian knew owned a pair of sheepskin footwear, and there were no sheepskin boots in California. So he brought six pairs of boots from Australia to test the market and UGG was born! Brian thought he was going to be an instant millionaire, BUT he had no idea that it would actually take him 17 years to build a meaningful business and eventually sell it.
Brian documented his amazing story in his book The Birth of a Brand, which you should definitely out on Amazon or wherever you buy your books. If you’ve ever wanted to learn about building a successful fashion brand and living a great life, then you’ll love this episode.
In this episode, you’ll enjoy 3 BIG things:
- When is a good time to sell your company
- The biggest lesson Brian learned about branding and advertising
- Why your hardest moments can be your best moments
And if you enjoy listening to the podcast, I would really appreciate it if you left a review on Apple Podcasts to help more people find out about it. I might shout you out in the next episode!
