Some of you may know that I live with my parents. Recently, I was evicted and have 30 days to leave the premises. Okay, it was not that ominous but they said it was time the bird left the nest. I guess at 25 I need to get my own place.
I had an idea to see What Can I do with my Blog/Diary/Journal. I think of it more as a marketing experiment about the use cases of this site.
Can anyone suggest a room, condo, live-in nanny, house to rent in the Bay Area?
About Me:
I am practically never home, but when I am, I occationally like to have guests over
I shower occassionally
I want to cook once and awhile
I occupy very little space and have slept on floors for months
Basically, all I need is a closet with wireless

I missed you Laura. As of now I have until the end of May booked up with friends couches, floors, beds, etc… I am really excited about this. I am not sure if I will leave California as my work is here but you never know=)
It seems very clear that we should do some sort of website/blog thing called, “Noah’s Floor Tour 2007.” (And Noah, you need to treat me to a burrito at Benny’s Burritos if you end up using that name!) Clearly, we all want Noah to come to OUR city and to visit us and to have him sleep on our floor, so why fight when we can all win!! And Noah, seriously, when you get a little older, it’s just gonna look too weird for you to do this, so I urge you to do it now. There could be some type of “fundraising” element to the site too. Better yet, get sponsors to pay for your travel.

Noah, I went on a “Couch Tour” in the fall of 2005 (the last semester of my MBA) – a different couch every week for a semester. I lived out of three big plastic bins and really learned a lot about myself and about my ‘friends’ (you know, the people in your life that you think ‘man, they’re really awesome, I wish I was able to hang out with them more’ – living with them provides that opportunity). I say do it!
Hmm… I am seriously thinking about this 30 days thing. I don’t know about a documentary but could be fun. Thanks everyone for your support and hopefully your couches=)

At UCSD, there was a student who lived in the basement of the main library / the student lounges / dorm main rooms and showered at the gym. It was quite the story.

Work for the “Man”? Noah? That’s a terrible, terrible piece of advice.
Noah, it’s not a dynamic choice between living on peoples’ couches or joining the corporate grind.
But if you had to choose, the couches would be a far better choice for your soul.
My job offer still stands…as does my apartment floor offer.
You might think about goign back to the corporate grind. I know you would much rather do the start my own business thing, but that requires some money.
The couch surfing thing just sounds too close to being a bum. I am not trying to be mean by any means, but there comes a time and place where you just have to bite the bullet and work for the “Man.” You can always pursue your interests and businesses with your time off. Or do they drain eight hours a day from you?
I might be way off. I am sure I will be scorned for saying it. I am just looking out for you…haha.

I used the sites before, hospitalityclub.org and couchsurfer.com. Worked great when I went to Thailand. I would prefer staying with friends if I did this. Weekly, every other week or monthly? It would be a cool way to get closer to friends and other great stuff.
That’s a great idea! And you’d experience so much that you wouldn’t come across if you had a stable home. You should try it =) There’s some website that caters to couch surfing travelers.. I’ve had several friends host random Europeans they met from the website.
You need at least 26 friends you can impose on twice a year…
Buy an old panel van and sleep in it.
PS. I would cook, clean, etc.. for rent or just pay=)
Wendy and my friend Alyssa just sparked an interesting idea. What do you think if I tried a year without getting a place and just staying at friends/community/random people’s places. Too strange? Cool? Awkward? Possible? Thoughts?
You can stay with me at the burrito capital. We have a tent and a covered backyard/patio area. Comes with a cot, wireless access, and the occasional skunk.

Noah G: Miami is the mobile capital of the US. On average Miamians spend more time on their cell phones than any other place in the US. FYI. Plus we have less interference from these so called “sky scrapers” and we have this little thing called south beach….
Noah K: Move here to miami, the burrito selection sucks, but we have more international food, like brazillian and argentinian steak houses, oh and brazillian and argentinian women.

Top 5 reasons why NYC is better:
1. Noah Brier and I live here. If Noah Kagan joined us, we’d have a Noah Triumvirate and there would be no stopping us from world conquest.
2. NYC has a concentrated population of 8.1M and a kickass subway system. The Valley has a sprawling population of 2.3M and a Grade F congestion rating. I live 3.3 miles away from where I work and it takes me 20 minutes to get here with walking and subway riding. I’m moving at just under a 10 mph average while commuting and my commute is really, really short. Not as short as when I was working from home, but much, much better than when I was living in Half Moon Bay and working at Shutterfly in Redwood City.
3. NYC is the mobile capital of the United States. The world is going mobile with a 5x increase in SMS sent in the US over the past 2 years, 229 million active mobile subscribers in the US, and mobile sales outstripping PC sales 10 to 1 (1 billion vs. 100 million)worldwide. The Valley owned the dot com boom, but NYC will own the mobile boom. I love being literally two city blocks away from fellow mobile startups like Rave Wireless (www.ravewireless.com).
4. Noah loves burritos. According to Citysearch, there are only 6 burrito restaurants within a 2-mile radius of Googleplex (the heart of Silicon Valley). 3 of those are Taco Bells (50%). There are no fewer than 32 burrito places within 2 miles of GoMobo headquarters (smack dab in the middle of Silicon Alley at 21st and Broadway) with only 7 of these being Taco Bells (under 22%).
5. The offer still stands for Noah K. to move to NYC and become the CMO of GoMobo. What could be better than that? Especially if he’s living rent free on my floor. 🙂

BTW: Noah Kagan claims that NYC has even better burritos than California. He promised to take me to a place to prove it. Just wanted to let you know that you won’t be burritoless here.

Thats a great idea Noah!! Get small companies to pay you to get idea from blog readers. $1000 a pop….thats nothing for start ups…..thats right there in their marketing budget.

If the people who share the place make and/or love burritos the better. Generally I eat my burritos at the restaurants and keep them separate from my living establishments for obvious reasons;)
Is there a Burrito requirement?
Live in a hostel. I can’t recommend any specific one in the bay area, but you should be able to find something. The longest I’ve stayed in a single hostel is about six weeks, in Washington, DC and Edinburgh, but if your lifestyle is as you describe and you find the right place, you might be comfortable.
