Something happened this month and I can’t stop thinking about it.
Every month at TidyCal (and AppSumo) we set GMOs (goals, metrics, objectives) and figure out what’s realistic for 30 days.
This month’s list:
Want the one email I send when I have something worth sending?
114,000+ entrepreneurs get it. One story from my business, one tactic you can use. No schedule, no fluff.
- Enabling partner subscriptions
- Accepting payments without needing Stripe or PayPal
- Booking coupons
- Reviews system for providers
Four major features. That’s normally a month across two developers and a designer.
It got done in a week.
I stared at the list and genuinely did not believe it. I double checked the quality of the work because I thought stuff was half-assed or broken. It wasn’t. It was good.
Then I looked at the AppSumo marketing team. Same week. Two new partner launches, a Reddit blitz, three affiliate networks onboarding, ~100 outbound deal pitches, new UGC ads, Reddit social proof ads hitting 8% CTR, a welcome series A/B test live, and non-LTD annual offers running with ads.
That is not a week of work. That’s a quarter of work at most companies. It happened in days.
I’m realizing with AI, a Week is the New Month. And honestly it’s shocking.
So what does this mean
This breaks how we plan. We are still planning like it’s 2023. The companies that figure out a new operating rhythm for this speed are going to destroy the ones still doing four-week sprints on stuff that should take two hours.
If your team isn’t multiplied by AI right now, you don’t have a team problem. You have a survival problem. I’m not being dramatic. The gap between an AI-leveraged team and a normal team isn’t 20% better. It’s 4-5x.
The most uncomfortable realization: you probably need to do LESS. When shipping is basically free, you will ship everything. You will stack features like stickers on a Honda. We almost did this. We had to stop ourselves and ask: does anyone actually want this or are we just building because we can? When building is easy, taste becomes the bottleneck. That’s a weird sentence but I think it’s true.
And can AI actually be trusted? We’re shipping faster but we’re also shipping code that was written by something that confidently lies. We’ve caught bugs that looked perfect, copy that sounded right but said wrong things, logic that passed every vibe check but failed on edge cases. The speed is real but so is the need to actually verify what you’re shipping. “Trust but verify” used to be a management cliché. Now it’s a requirement.
I’ve been running software businesses for 15+ years and this is the most disorienting shift I’ve ever felt. More than internet. More than iPhone.
Because those changed what you could build. AI is changing how fast you can build it, and that speed changes everything downstream: how you plan, who you hire and how you decide what matters.
A week is the new month. But only if the week actually counts.
What’s changing in how your team works? Genuinely curious because I think everyone’s figuring this out in real time.
