Money Strategies from Ramit Sethi

Recently, someone asked me what separates successful people from normal people.

Immediately, I thought of my friend Ramit Sethi.

When I first met Ramit 15 years ago, he was a skinny kid going to Stanford.

But IMMEDIATELY I knew he was going to be successful.

He came across as really interesting… and there was something special about him compared to most people.

15 years later, Ramit is now a New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestselling author on finance. And his websites get over 1 million monthly readers on finance and persuasion.

Today, I talk to Ramit about how to manage your money and live a Rich Life.

You’ll learn 3 main things:

  1. The six-week program thousands of people have used to optimize their finances in less than 90 minutes per month
  2. What are “money dials”… and how to identify yours, so you can live YOUR version of a rich life
  3. How millionaires manage and spend their money differently than most people

Plus a lot more.

Stuff we talk about:

  • The Millionaire Next Door. A personal finance book that Ramit and I both recommend. Millionaires are usually not who you think.
  • Vanguard. We talk about how we allocate your net worth. Ramit recommends low-cost index funds from Vanguard.
  • Brunello Cucinelli. Being frugal and managing your money doesn’t mean you can’t also have fun. This clothing brand is something that Ramit really enjoys.

What’s the #1 thing you learned from Ramit? Reply and let me know…

I use Wealthfront, so I thought it was cool to hear what Ramit thought about them. I’ll be switching to Vanguard by Friday this week.

-Update: I don’t get charged any fees until I break the $10K mark by Wealthfront. I’ll move to Vanguard once those fees kick in, probably within a year or so. Just started investing in the middle of college, so I don’t have a ton to start with.

Laughed at the irrational frugality with the Mac, I am on our 21.5 inch iMac which I was happy to spend money on in 2010!! But not replaced it because not dead yet. I have had a new drive, the disc drive broke years ago and have to keep ‘sleeping’ it as gets so noisy. I’m the same with phones and cars.

Hi, I bought the book from Ramit. He seems to have no good advice or hope for someone at 61 years old. Why not? Please tell him we think the same as if we were young people. There are companies to start. Tell him to come out with a book on how to start companies. I don’t have any money, but In great health, I can marry well . I can learn how to manage money, not just be a companion. I feel like just finishing college and learn economics and personal finance. If 40 years more is in my future, I want to be creative with money and business. Thinking ability and energy are possible on HRT and careful eating. TTYL

Great episode!

I read I Will Teach You To Be Rich 6 years ago. I have automated my savings and investments thanks to his techniques.

I was able to set my “rich life” vision and get closer one step at a time.

Honestly, I haven’t followed his recent content. However, the habits and basics remain since I read his book.

Thanks a LOT Ramit.
